Five-year-old artist Isabel Tubao’s watercolor Red Train is one of twenty-four charming and colorful illustrations featured in Norwood Promotional Products Kids-Did-It! Designs® 2007 and 2008 promotional wall calendars showcasing delightful artwork created by young kids, ages 3 – 15.

Calendars Illustrated by Kids Return to Promotional Market

SAN DIEGO, CA – As a testament to the growing appeal of the emerging “Artwork-by-Kids” product category, Norwood Promotional Products has signed an image licensing agreement with California art-licensing and design studio Kids-Did-It! Properties to publish 2007 and 2008 imprintable promotional calendars and medical planners under their Kids-Did-It! Designs® retail brand.

The calendars feature a series of playful images from the Kids-Did-It! Designs® illustration collection - a unique catalog of more than 470 charming and colorful illustrations created by young art students, age 3 to 14. In addition to learning the fundamentals of art and design, each young artist also earns a royalty for the licensed reproduction of their artwork.

Kids-Did-It! Properties president, Glenn Abrams, says, “As the first successful Licensor to develop and promote the Artwork-by-Kids product category, we’re still excited when we see growing consumer delight with merchandise featuring artwork created by young kids. This’ll be our 3rd calendar! Plus, the kids are just as excited, especially once they see their artwork out there on store shelves!”

Retail sales within the “Artwork-by-Kids” product category have garnered Kids-Did-It! Licensees more than $5 million, to date.

With its distinctive look and feel, licensed artwork by more than 57 Kids-Did-It! artists has been reproduced on a variety of merchandise identified by the Kids-Did-It! Designs® retail logo – a feel-good lifestyle brand that identifies unique, colorful and inspiring products that appeal to consumers who love kids and are delighted by the freshness, innocence and fun of their artwork.

“We were really delighted by the bright colors and fun of their watercolors. They were a perfect choice for our kid’s activity calendar, which really makes a great promotional gift for anyone who love kids!” said Norwood Image Editor, Alicia Swift.

Kids-Did-It! has provided images for an expanding list of Licensees who recognized the potential of this fresh new product category including Jeanmarie® Creations for Walgreens drugstores, office product giant MeadWestvaco, Deluxe subsidiary Checks Unlimited, Gibson/American Greetings, Papel Giftware™, manufacturers for Dollar Tree Stores, Prentice Hall and Houghton-Mifflin publishers and DayGlo® Color Corporation.

In addition to Norwood Promotional Products, other recent Licensees include Leap Year Publishing who is distributing a line of Kids-Did-It! Designs® cards, gift bags and paper pads, Inter-Governmental Philatelic Corporation offering a playful series of Kids-Did-It! Designs® postage stamps, with Deluxe subsidiary Checks Unlimited recently extending their licensing agreement for illustrated checks and address labels.

Kids-Did-It! has also provided images for The Covenant House for homeless children, The NYC Funds for a Future campaign, as well as Audubon, KPBS-TV and the San Diego Hospice in support of their fund raising efforts.

Most of the artwork included in the Kids-Did-It! Designs® collection was created under the guidance of Glenn’s wife, California artist, art director and art teacher, Michelle Abrams. Throughout the summer young children, ages 5 to 14, joined Michelle in her San Diego studio to study basic principles of art and design. Since 1989, her encouragement and contagious love for the arts has helped to bring out the best artwork from her enthusiastic students. She often compares their work to the classics, describing it as, "…quite colorful and strikingly beautiful – some worthy of being called 'fine art' in the tradition of Matisse, Picasso or Miro.”

Michelle encourages parents and students to take their artwork off the refrigerator, enlarge it, and frame it. She says, “Treat it as fine art and display it proudly around the house! That’s what we do!”

The artwork inspired Glenn, also a designer, to create Kids-Did-It! Properties™, an art-licensing and design studio that collects, represents and publishes the student artwork. Now, aside from the thrill and satisfaction of being published artists, the young artists can also earn royalties for the reproduction of their work.

“What’s fun is now we can write royalty payments on our own Kids-Did-It! Designs® illustrated checks,” explains Glenn. Students often use the proceeds as extra allowance, or for college savings - some students have even framed their first royalty check.

The Kids-Did-It! Designs® artwork collection is fresh, inspirational, very colorful and surprisingly beautiful. “The images are organized in seven categories and can be digitally adapted to a variety of materials including paper, textiles, toys, clothing, household and soft-goods, ceramics, melamine, plush, toys, giftware - just let your imagination go!" says Glenn.

Each year Kids-Did-It! Properties™ exhibits their illustration collection at SURTEX and The L!CENSING Show at the Jacob Javitz Convention Center in NYC, actively seeking licensees for Housewares, Home Furnishings, Furniture, Home Accessories, Giftware, Stationary and other product categories.

“Strong retail sales combined with the enthusiastic response to our Artwork-by-Kids concept and the distinctive images in the Kids-Did-It! Designs® catalog, plus our story-telling logo and our promotional photos - all speak well for continued growth of the brand,” says Glenn.
